You may not have heard of them, but the Dunhill-Namiki pens are considered by experts to be one of the most valuable and collectible pens in the world. It all began in 1915 in Tokyo when the Namiki factory began producing gold pen nibs. However it was not until a decade later when a special process that involved applying lacquer to protect the pen bodies from getting faded or scratched that the pens started getting popular. The founders Ryosuki Namiki and Masao wada then thought of using the ancient Japanese technique of Maki-e which involves dusting precious metal powder onto wet lacquer to create intricate images. |
